The 2023 Triton has been detailed for Australia, but buyers will now have to spend at least $30,000 to get their hands on a Mitsubishi ute.
- 2023 Mitsubishi Triton pricing and specifications
- Petrol engine no longer offered for the first time in Triton’s history
- Prices increased across the board by up to $1500
- New Sport Edition (400 examples available)
The 2023 Mitsubishi Triton line-up has been announced, with the Japanese ute no longer offering a petrol engine – and no variants available for less than $30,000.
Prices have gone up across the board – just six months after Mitsubishi increased prices by as much as $8750 – while the 2023 Triton sees the addition of a limited-edition model introduced below the range-topping GSR variant.
The new Triton Sport Edition is limited to just 400 vehicles in Australia, and builds on the GLS dual-cab’s Deluxe package – which includes a powered driver’s seat, heated front seats, leather door inserts, and a surround-view camera – but adds a number of style upgrades, including red exterior accents, decals, and a black leather interior with red contrast stitching.
Mitsubishi has dropped the 2.4-litre petrol four-cylinder engine from the entry-level GLX, believed to be the first time the Triton range has been offered without a petrol engine since the model went on sale in Australia 36 years ago.
All Triton models now come exclusively with a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 133kW and 430Nm. A six-speed automatic transmission is available across the line-up, with the six-speed manual offered on selected 4×2 and 4×4 variants.
Fuel consumption is claimed at between 7.8 litres per 100 kilometres and 8.6L/100km, depending on the configuration.
While the petrol-powered Triton GLX 4×2 was previously the least expensive model in the family at $24,240 before on-road costs for a single-cab chassis manual ute, that is no longer the case.
The cost of entry to the Triton range is now $30,740 before on-road costs for the 2.4-litre turbo-diesel GLX 4×2 single-cab chassis – an increase of almost 27 per cent, thanks in part to a $1500 price bump for the model for 2023.
Those who opt for the GLX-R and GLS models get an upgraded head unit, which features a 7.0-inch touchscreen with in-built satellite navigation, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.
The Triton is eligible for Mitsubishi’s 5-plus-5-year/200,000km factory warranty – for vehicles serviced only at Mitsubishi dealerships according to the company’s fixed-price schedule.
Vehicles serviced outside the Mitsubishi dealer network only receive a five-year warranty.
For now, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has not objected to the 5+5-year versus 10-year warranty distinction, even though new regulations give consumers choice of independent repairers.
The first examples of the 2023 Mitsubishi Triton range are expected to arrive in dealerships from December 2022.
