The Metropolis of Sanford is implementing for an NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant to fund an extension to the Endor Iron Furnace Greenway and establish the Skunk Creek Fishing Obtain Region — and wants the public’s enter to progress.

Currently, the Greenway handles 1.43 miles from Douglas Travel to the Riverbirch Procuring Center and then follows Skunk Creek to Carbonton Road.

New: The proposed Greenway extension adds a few new segments that will increase walkability and connect Kiwanis Family members Park to Kiwanis Children’s Park and the Central Carolina Clinic space.

The proposed segments are:

• Kiwanis Family members Park to Fields Drive together Skunk Creek,

• a multi-use path alongside Carthage Street from Fields Drive to Wicker Street, and

• a multi-use path together Wicker Road from Carthage Road back again to the Kiwanis Household Park.

These additions will create a triangle-shaped path and increase 1.19 miles to the current Greenway for a complete of 2.62 miles.

Bonus: The proposed job will also build the Skunk Creek Fishing Accessibility Area, a community accessibility place with seating and signage. The aim for this house is to provide fishing access that is available with out a car or truck and also to teach visitors about local fish.

“These proposed projects will give direct entry to substantial out of doors recreation alternatives for all men and women. This is particularly essential for neighborhoods that have no bicycle or pedestrian access to nearby parks,” Nick Fortune, parks administrator for the Metropolis of Sanford, explained. “The Skunk Creek Fishing Obtain Location will be the city’s very first fishing parklet.”
