Get ready for more than two weeks of car mania as back-to-back auto shows roll into Redding and Anderson.
The first event is the weeklong Shasta Show & Shines presented by Shasta Cruising, which gets underway Saturday. Then beginning April 22, Redding’s traditional Kool April Nites returns after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Organizer Stephanie Croce said businesses at each show and shine location this year will host their own event with the participation of local car clubs.
“It’s like a tailgate pre-party. It’s for the community, by the community,” Croce said.
Unique feature this year
Shasta Cruising is offering a $25 Pit Pass so spectators and car-show participants can keep track of the schedule and enter to win prizes at the April 24 after-party at the Fall River Brewing Co. on Eastside Road. The link to download the app is https://bit.ly/3jLZuVL.
Croce said enough passes have been sold so far that a $500 raffle prize will be among the giveaways that include gift cards and gift baskets.
Pass holders can check in at the show and shines and take a picture of themselves or their cars to prove they were there. Pass holders can enter 10 times for the 10 events.
“At the end of the week we’re going to have a huge raffle and giveaway at Fall River for all of the Pit Pass people to win lots of prizes,” Croce said.
The Pit Pass proceeds will go to the afterparty prizes while other money raised through sponsorships will go to United Shasta and the Alyssa Araiza Wings Of Angels organization.
Last year Shasta Cruising raised $50,000. “I would love to raise $50,000 again this year,” Croce said.
Last year’s Shasta Show & Shines gained popularity in the absence of Kool April Nites.
Croce said her event continued for a second year because she and others started planning as soon as last year’s event ended.
“We didn’t know if they (Kool April Nites) were going to be back this year. We had already started planning. By the time they even announced it, we had a schedule. … We coudn’t undo that,” said Croce, who’s a big fan of Kool April Nites.
Going forward, Croce said Shasta Cruising plans to team up with the Big Bike Weekend organizers and combine their events for an autumn show.
“It will be a fall week instead of the spring week now that Kool April Nites is back,” Croce said.
Schedule of events
Croce said some of the highlights this week will be an art and music show at Demented Designs. “That will be really fun,” she said.
PIBBS in Happy Valley has a special prize. “They’re raffling off a Harley this year. It’s going to be crazy this year,” Croce said.
